DOVER - The Midvale Blue Devils (3-0) (17-6) (63-29) found themselves on the short end of the score for 3 quarters and they were forced to battle the upset minded Gnadenhutten Indians (1-1) (11-12) (50-45) right down to the wire before pulling a victory out of the hat.  Senior Ron Weaver emerged as the Blue Devil's "ace in the hole" as he rebounded under both boards and led the scoring attack throughout the game as Junior Larry Swinderman and Senior Bob Zontini were shackled.

Zontini went scoreless for the 1st half and then came up with 5 points in the 2nd half, while Swinderman, who injured his ankle with a minute left in the game, ended up with 12 points.  Gnaden zipped along the warpath in the 1st period and commanded a 12-10 advantage as the Indians played the game to the hilt.  Junior Chuck Albaugh and Junior Lloyd Porter combined with Glen Hines in the 2nd frame and the Tribe were on top 9 points at one time and were still ahead by 8 markers 34-26 at half time intermission as Sophomore John Beans picked up the lag in the Diablos offense.

Albaugh sat out the 3rd stanza and Porter was whistled out on fouls with 4 minutes left in that quarter, but Head Coach Dick Scott's Braves managed to stay in the lead as Sophomore Dick Leggett and Weaver boosted the Devils into striking position.  The Blue and Gold trailing 48-45 going into the final canto, raced to a 54-48 lead before the Scarlet and Gray could throttle the surge midway in the last quarter.

Weaver continued to spark Midvale in their stretch drive and the Blue Devils led 60-53 until Gnadenhutten bolted back into contention and pared the margin to 60-58 with 2 and a half minutes left.  Junior Chuck Seldenwright tossed in 3 straight baskets under the boards for the Diablos and Gnaden just couldn't seem to score in the hectic last minute of play and the Devils won at the wire.

Weaver's 23 points were high for Midvale with Leggett adding 10 markers, while Hines' 22 points were high for the Indians and Albaugh contributed another 15 markers.  During the season, Gnadenhutten ran down Midvale 77-63 and then the Blue Devls came back in the 2nd encounter 65-56.
