48 - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Overcomes Port Lead In the 3rd Stanza To Win 52-41 (2-26-48)

DOVER - Second-Year Head Coach Bray Toot's Port Washington Purple Riders (2-2) (18-5) (13-36), once considered a tournament "dark horse," saw a 14-4 first quarter lead fade in the face of deadly shooting by Senior forward Don Miller, Sophomore guard Jim Knox and Freshman guard Glen Zimmerman of 2nd-Year Head Coach Bill Ortt's Sugarcreek-Shansville Pirates (3-1) (13-8) (47-29) who completely outclassed the Purple Riders in the final 2 quarters of a Consolation Division contest.

After 5-10 Senior guard Jack Davies had netted 4 field goals and staked Port Washington to that comfortable 1st quarter margin, Knox and Miller began pouring points through the nets to trim the Port lead to 20-16 at halftime.  In the 3rd stanza, the Pirates staged a brilliant rally to overhaul the Purple Riders and go into a 31-29 lead.  The drive was paced by Miller, Zimmerman and Knox who pierced the Port defenses to score almost at will.

Throughout the 4th period, Senior center Don Hostetler, Miller and Zimmerman continued the blistering pace which threatened to rout the Porters before the final gun.  Miller and Knox shared scoring honors for the Pirates with 15 markers each, while Zimmerman was collecting 10 of his team's total.  5-11 Senior center Hal Huston led the losers with 12 points.
