43 - Stone Creek Shell-Shocks Dundee 59-22 (2-19-43)

DOVER - Second-Year Head Coach M.R. Helwick's Stone Creek Golden Panthers (1-0) (10-19) trailed the Dundee Bulldogs (0-1) (16-28) through the 1st quarter, but grabbed the bit and flew into a long lead in the 2nd quarter when they stopped Head Coach Emmett Riley's Bulldogs with a single free throw.  Dundee finished the game with only 4 players on the floor when personal fouls sent 3 of Riley's 7 squad members to the showers in the 1st officially sanctioned game of 1943 in the 21st Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament here last night when Stone Creek blasted Dundee by 37 points...59-22.

The Golden Panthers, paced by forward Bill Ridenour who took a big jump on other contenders for the tournament's solo honors, hopped to a 4-0 lead, but then Dundee tied it up and went on to hold an 11-7 edge at the end of the 1st period of play.  But the Bulldogs couldn't stand the pace and fell behind 23-12 in the 3rd chukker.  The Creekers led 39-20 at the start of the stretch drive.

Ridenour, rangy and well-built, spear-headed his team's offense and finally came up with 27 points... 11 field goals and 5 free throws.  Smith, a Dundee guard, snagged 11, seven of them in the 2nd half.  First-Year Head Coach Emmett Riley lost Monte, a forward, Frankhauser, a center and Klein, a guard, on personal fouls and finished with a lineup consisting of forwards Philabaum and Frutig and guards Smith and Miller.  Miller and Frutig are a pair of quite small boys who had little or no chance against the taller Golden Panthers combination.

Ridenour of Stone Creek led all scorers with 27 points (just 3 points from the record of 30 points held by the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates' Harland Sliffe in 1927), while his teammate K. Buehler connected with 15 markers.  Smith of Dundee, led his team with 11 points.
