43 - Meet The 1943 Bolivar Cardinals

BOLIVAR - Third-Year Head Coach John A. Major, head of the Red Birds, has 10 men returning from last season's squad.  Eight of them from the 10 he carried to the tournament and 3 of them from his starting five.  Coach Major lost Calvin Jones (49 points) and Joe Huffman (29 points), but has returning forward Warren Klink (136 points), center Russ Ross (41 points) and guard Bill Zutavern (14 points) of the 1st five and Gus Augsberger (2 points), Jim Augsberger (0 points), Fred Charton (0 points), Homer Class (9 points), Paul Lab (1 point), Keene Lebold, and Ralph Peden from his club of last season.  All but Lebold and Peden attended the tournament with the team.

Klink, Ross and Zutavern are expected to get starting nods along with Gus Augsberger at guard and Keene Lebold at the other forward.  The latter 2 are far; however, from having their positions clinched as Augsbergher's brother is making a strong bid for that post and Class may push Lebold off the starting berth.  Two others are being carried on the squad by Coach Major, Dick Knox, who attended Dover High School last season and Max Swonger, a Freshman guard.  Knox is expected to make a good enough bid for a guard position in the tournament.
