33 - Strasburg Tigers Are The 1933 District Champions (3-11-33)

Here is the Class B team of the Eastern Ohio High School District...Strasburg Tigers.  Strasburg won the District Title and the right to participate in the Saste Tournament at Columbus by defeating Dennison 27-18 in the District finals at Dennison on Saturday night.  Team Members:  Junior Elwyan Rieger - Guard, Junior John "Johnny" Studer - Forward, Sophomore George Denzer - Center, Sophomore Bill "Doddles" Haas - Forward, Senior Captain Bill Jones - Guard, Sophomore Jim Dreher - Forward, Senior Foster Peters - Guard, Golden - Center, Senior Fred Schenk - Guard, Sophomore Adrian "Fuzz" Miller - Forward, Huth - Student Manager and Head Coach Paul M. Roby.

DENNISON - The Strasburg Tigers (8-0) had to overcome an 8-point lead before it could play in the same game with Dennison which shot from the starting whistle to the long end of a 9-2 count in the 1st period of the Class B final.  Strasburg's only counters were free throws by John Studer and Bill Jones.  With cold calculation seldom seen outside of an adding machine, the Tigers began a systematic pilfering of the Railroaders' lead in the 2nd period.  With their offensive thunder stolen, Dennison annexed only 1 point in the period, while Strasburg completed its job of looting and stepped out front with an 11-10 count at halftime.

Dennison's forward, Cryder, tied the count as the 3rd period opened and again at 13-13 a moment later.  But, a bucket and a free toss by Studer put the Tigers out front to stay.  The foul was called on Bente, Railroaders' guard.  Dennison's hope of stopping Studer was the one that banished him from the game.  Six to 5 the Tigers outscored the Railroaders in the final stanza.  Studer carried off scoring honors with 13 points on 5 field goals and 3 free throws...and he missed 7 free tosses.  Bridgeman, Dennison center, whose sharp-shooting pulled the Railroaders out of several tournament holes, was high for his club with seven.  Bill Haas, George Denzer and Jones of Strasburg each scored 4 points, while Elwyn Rieger of the same team made two.  The play of Studer and Bridgeman stood out through the entire tournament.  Forward Carnahan was 2nd high for Dennison with 4 markers, while   Cryder and Zimmerman each had 3 and Bente 1 to finish off the scoring for Dennison.
