DOVER - The Tuscarawas Broncos (0-2) (8-12) (46-44) gained the dubious distinction of becoming the 1st team eliminated from the tournament as the Stone Creek Golden Panthers (1-1) (14-8) (28-43) cashed in on superior action shooting and a 27-point final quarter to come up with their 77-61 victory in the 1st game of the Consolation Division Tournament.  Head Coach Ron Easton's Broncos, although having a subpar night from action and at the free throw line, managed to give the Golden Panthers a battle for the 1st half before fading in the homestretch.

Neither team could connect with any consistency in the opening quarter and the Panthers were in front by only 18-15 at the 1st stop.  Tusky never could grab the lead, but knotted the count on 3 occasions during the 2nd stanza before Sophomore forward Ron Reinhart hit a bucket and 2 free throws and Junior forward Ron Deibel a field goal to give the Creekers a 33-28 halftime margin.  During the 2nd frame, Reinhart and Deibel accounted for all of the Blue and Gold's points with 9 and 6 markers respectively.

Junior guard Ben Wherley took on the spark-plugging chores for Stone Creek with 10 points in the 3rd stanza and with Senior guard Bob (Hap) Vesco and Senior guard Ron Moore offering most of the resistance for the Bronco Busters, the Golden Panthers boosted its advantage to 50-41 going into the concluding canto.  Freshman Tom Vesco did a bangup job for Tuscarawas in the 4th quarter and tallied 6 points besides grabbing several rebounds, but the Head Coach Leo Gower tutored Panthers, hitting 15 points on 18 tries from the charity stripe, gradually pulled away.

All 5 starters for the Creekers tallied in double figures with Deibel and Reinhart leading with 19 each followed by Ben Wherley with 16.  Senior forward Ted Riggle topped Tusky with 14, while Moore and Bob Vesco garnered 11 and 10 points respectively.  Stone Creek took 61 shots from action and hit on 24 for 39 percent, while the Broncos sank 23 of 75 for 30 percent.  The Golden Panthers connected on 29 of 40 free throws, the Bronco Busters hit 15 of 29.

A total of 42 personals were called.  Twenty-five were against Tuscarawas who lost Junior center Ed Hill and Bob Vesco in the 4th canto.  Deibel of the winners fouled out with 5:40 remaining in the game.
