56 - Stone Creek Rips Bolivar 85-63 (2-18-56)

DOVER - The Stone Creek Golden Panthers (2-1) (15-8) (29-43) whose one-two punch of Junior forward Ron Deibel and Sophomore forward Rod Reinhart kept the Golden Panthers in contention for Consolation Division honors as the Bolivar Cardinals (1-2) (8-15) (49-49) never caught up after getting behind in the 1st two minutes of the evening's opener.  Deibel, hitting on an assortment of shots and uncanny on his pet jumper, rang the bell for 27 points and Reinhart bagged 22, three more than the Panther defensive stalwart, Junior guard Ben Wherley at 19.

The Cardinals, despite a 23 point effort by Junior Ken (Bobo) Haueter, simply did not have the necessary rebounding and shot making to overcome the Blue and Gold which nevertheless was unable to ice the verdict until the last session.  The Red Birds held a 2-point advantage after a minute of play, but with Deibel and Reinhart pacing the attack, the Cats moved out front with 2 late goals by Deibel giving Stone Creek a 17-15 first quarter edge.

Head Coach Leo Gower's team, with the spectaculular Deibel making 6 field goals and a free throw flip, spread the difference to 8 points in the 2nd frame and added a couple of points to its margin in the 3rd stanza despite 9 points by Bolivar's Haueter.  In this quarter, Reinhart hit for 12 points and Ben Wherley contributed 7.  Wherley and Deibel helped the Golden Panthers get more breathing room early in the last canto and at the finish both sides were utilizing substitutes.

In addition to hitting from the field in an accurate manner the Panthers were deadly at the free throw line where it made 17 out of 25.  Junior Wayne Ruof was also in double figures for the Cardinal and Gray with 10 markers.
