39 - Tusky Sends Bolivar Home 36-29 (2-25-39)

Tuscarawas Broncos Senior Forward Earl Johnson blasted the nets for 17 points and game honors in leading his team to victory over the Bolivar Cardinals 36-29.

DOVER - First game out of the box on saturday was between the Tuscarawas Broncos (2-1) (12-19) and the Bolivar Cardinals (2-2) (23-18).  To get to the Consolation Tournament semi-finals, the  Broncos had trounced the Port Washington Purple Riders 43-27,  and lost to the Midvale Blue Devils 34-30.  The Bolivar Cardinals lost to the Mighty Strasburg Tigers 29-24, beat-up the Mineral City Tigers 34-20 and whipped the Stone Creek Golden Panthers 39-24.

This fight was more or less nip-and-tuck, basket-by-basket as the 2 teams appeared to be evenly matched.  Tuscarawas Senior forward Earl Johnson lead all scorers with 17 points (6 field goals and 5 free throws) with a little help from Senior center Fred Blackstone who dumped in 6 points on 2 field goals and 2 free tosses.  First-year Head Coach Sherwood Haueter's team had a more balanced approach to this game with both Senior forward Justin Huth and center Bud Ross both scoring 10 points (5 field goals each) with forward Jim Huffman right behind them with 8 points (3 field goals and 2 free throws).  Eleventh-year Head Coach Charmis Davis' team was the runner-up with an 8-2 record in the league, while Bolivar finished 8th with a 4-6 record.
